Public Records is a music venue, bar and vegan restaurant at 233 Butler St in Gowanus, Brooklyn, in the former ASPCA building. Its quadraphonic Sound Room and the outdoor Nursery host house, techno, ambient and jazz nights, and Time Out put it at the top of its list of the city's best clubs. A bar, a restaurant and a sound room
Public Records occupies the old ASPCA building on Butler Street in Gowanus and splits it into several spaces: a bar, a vegan restaurant, the outdoor Nursery and the Sound Room, a quadraphonic room built around an OJAS sound system. The programming runs from house and techno to ambient and jazz, and Time Out ranked it number one in its guide to the best clubs in New York. It is open Wednesday to Sunday: early evenings midweek, late nights until 4am on Friday and Saturday, and daytime from 10am on weekends.
Planning a night in Gowanus
Because Public Records is a restaurant as well as a club, it works well for a full evening: dinner, a drink in the Nursery, then the Sound Room. Tickets for the Sound Room are sold by event. The team behind it is also a partner in a new 1,000-capacity venue planned at MADE Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, announced for late 2026 with the name still to come, according to Time Out. Message us on WhatsApp with your date and group size, and we'll help you plan it.
