What Time Do Clubs Close in NYC? Last Call, Opening Times and After-Hours
· Updated:
New York clubs stop serving alcohol at 4am every night under state law (Alcoholic Beverage Control Law §106(5)); drinks must be finished by 4:30am, and some clubs keep the music going later without a bar. So when people say NYC clubs 'close at 4am', what they mean is that last call is 4am.

What the law says
Section 106(5) of the New York Alcoholic Beverage Control Law says that no alcohol may be sold, offered or given away on premises licensed for on-site drinking between 4am and 8am, and on Sunday between 4am and 10am (some permits allow exceptions). It also says nobody may keep drinking on the premises more than half an hour after that window starts, which is where the 4:30am rule comes from. You can read the full text on the New York State Senate's site: nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/ABC/106 (most recent revision listed Oct 30, 2026).
Counties that adopted earlier closing hours on or before April 1, 1995 keep them, which is why some upstate bars shut at 2am. New York City did not, so 4am applies in all five boroughs. A temporary provision that ran from June 11 to July 20, 2026 dealt with those stricter counties; the version in force since July 21, 2026 no longer includes it. Bars follow the same rule as clubs, so 'what time do bars close in Manhattan or Brooklyn' has the same answer: last call at 4am.
What time NYC clubs open
Opening times vary much more than closing times. These are the hours each venue publishes (or that its operator lists):
| Club | Doors | Last listed time | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marquee | 11pm (Wed, Fri, Sat) | 4am | Tao Group |
| Outer Heaven | 8pm (Wed–Sat) | 3am Wed, 4am Thu–Sat | outerheaven.nyc |
| Le Bain | 4pm Wed–Fri, 2pm Sat–Sun | 4am; midnight on Sunday | The Standard |
| Somewhere Nowhere | 12pm Fri–Sun, 5pm Wed | 4am; 1am on Wednesday | somewherenowherenyc.com |
| Public Records | 10am Sat and Sun, 6pm Wed–Fri | 4am Fri–Sat; 9pm Sunday | publicrecords.nyc |
| Elsewhere | 10:30pm (Fri–Sat club nights) | 4am | Nightlife guide, 2026 |
| Industry Bar | 5pm, every day | 4am | industry-bar.com |
| Nowadays (Nonstop) | 10pm Saturday | 10pm Sunday (no alcohol after 4am) | Nightlife guide, 2026 |
Notice that 4am is a ceiling, not an obligation: Le Bain closes at midnight on Sundays and Public Records at 9pm. Always check the venue's own page for the night you are going.
When clubs actually get busy
As a rule of thumb, Manhattan's table clubs fill up earlier in the night than Brooklyn and Queens, where the dance floors peak closer to last call and beyond. If you have a table, arrive at the time it is booked for. If you are on a guest list, the list usually closes at a set time, so arriving late can mean queuing as a walk-in.
Can a club stay open after 4am?
Yes. The law limits alcohol sales, not dancing, so a licensed club can keep its doors open after 4am as long as nobody is served. That is how BASEMENT in Maspeth runs into Saturday and Sunday mornings, how Nowadays holds its weekly Nonstop from Saturday 10pm to Sunday 10pm, and how H0L0's Honcho takeovers last from 3pm to 7am. Signal's Night & Day parties run from Friday night into Saturday afternoon.

New Year's Eve: no extra hour
Section 106(5) has no exception for New Year's Eve, so the 4am cut-off applies on Jan 1 like any other night. NYE parties that run later do it the same way as any after-hours: the bar stops at 4am.
Getting home
The subway went back to 24-hour service on May 17, 2021, according to the MTA. Overnight trains run less often and weekend work can change routes, so check mta.info before you head out. Several clubs in Bushwick, East Williamsburg and Ridgewood are close to the L and M lines.
