How Guest Lists Work at NYC Clubs (and Which Clubs Don't Have One)
· Updated:
A guest list at a New York club is a list of names the door lets in for a given night, usually only if you arrive before a set cut-off time. Some clubs run their own RSVP list, some have no list at all, and many bars simply work at the door. In every case, being on the list does not guarantee you get in.
Quick answer
| How the club works | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Own RSVP list, before a set time | Mood Ring, Lot 45, 3 Dollar Bill, Superior Ingredients (some events) | Venue sites and listings |
| Guest list and tables on its own site | Code Astoria | codeastorianyc.com |
| RSVP through Resident Advisor | Nowadays | nowadays.nyc |
| No guest list | Marquee, Gabriela | Nightlife guide, club listing |
| Door only, no list or ticket needed | Le Bain (to dance), ANIMAL, Industry Bar, The Eagle, Mansions, Playhouse, Hardware, Paul's Casablanca | Venue sites and LGBTQ+ guides |
| Ticket or table only | BASEMENT (ticket), The Box and Silencio (table) | Nightlife guides, venue booking page |
Guest list vs ticket vs table
- Guest list: your name (and your group's) on the door list for one night, usually valid until a cut-off time. After that, you join the regular line.
- Ticket: entry bought in advance for a specific event; at ticketed clubs it is the only way in on busy nights.
- Table: a reserved section with bottle service, booked for a group. It is the most certain way into Manhattan's table clubs.
- 'Guest list tickets': on ticketing platforms, a promoter can issue named guest-list passes that are scanned at the door like a ticket. Same idea, different format.
Clubs with RSVP lists before a set time
In Brooklyn and Queens, the list is often the club's own RSVP. Mood Ring in Bushwick takes RSVPs for entry before 11pm. Lot 45 runs an RSVP that is valid until a set hour, through its link page. 3 Dollar Bill in East Williamsburg handles its own RSVPs for some nights. Superior Ingredients has RSVP entry before 4pm or 6pm at some day events. Code Astoria, in Queens, takes guest-list sign-ups and table requests on its own website, and Nowadays handles RSVPs through Resident Advisor.

Clubs with no guest list
Some clubs simply do not run one. Marquee is listed as having no guest list: you buy a ticket (entry is quicker before 12:30am) or book a table. Gabriela in Williamsburg has no guest list and no dress code. Refuge in East Williamsburg sells tickets only, with no VIP, no bottles and all sales final.

Door-only bars: no list, no ticket
A lot of New York's dancing happens in bar-clubs where you just queue at the door. Le Bain lets you in to dance at the door (tables are separate). The gay bars work the same way: Industry Bar and HUSH in Hell's Kitchen, Hardware on 10th Ave, Playhouse in the West Village, The Eagle in Chelsea and ANIMAL in Brooklyn. Mansions in Ridgewood and Paul's Casablanca in SoHo are door-only too. This is the honest answer to 'which NYC clubs let you in without paying for a ticket': these are the ones built to work that way.

Does a list guarantee entry?
No. Le Bain says outright that an RSVP does not guarantee entry and recommends arriving early. BASEMENT says the same about its tickets. Lists usually close on the day, they only count until the cut-off time, and the list line can move more slowly than the ticket line on a busy night. Arrive early, arrive with the group you put on the list, and bring photo ID.
How we do it
Message us on WhatsApp with the club, the date, how many people and their names. We'll tell you whether that night has a list, what time it closes and whether a ticket or a table is the safer option.
