Queens: BASEMENT, Nowadays, H0L0 and Mansions

BASEMENT is the room most people mean by 'techno in New York'. It opened in May 2019 in brick tunnels under Knockdown Center, at 52-19 Flushing Ave in Maspeth, with its own entrance. Its second room, STUDIO, opened in September 2022 and leans more toward house. It runs Friday and Saturday into the morning, with no phones, photos or video allowed.

Nowadays, in Ridgewood, mixes house, techno and disco in a 5,000 sq ft indoor room and a garden, and its weekly Nonstop runs from Saturday 10pm to Sunday 10pm. H0L0, on Wyckoff Ave, has been a DIY club for techno, house and experimental music since 2017, with no VIP area and Honcho takeovers that run from 3pm to 7am. Mansions, a natural wine bar with a foggy dance room and a patio, reopened in April 2026 after a winter refit.

East Williamsburg: SILO, Refuge, Signal and more

The industrial blocks around Scott Ave, Morgan Ave and Ten Eyck St are New York's newest techno district. SILO, at 90 Scott Ave, is a 500-capacity warehouse open since 2023 with techno, house, bass and trance. Refuge, on Ten Eyck St since September 2025, holds about 500 people around a four-point hi-fi system and has no VIP, no bottles and a strict no-phone policy. Signal, at 175 Morgan Ave since May 2025, is smaller (210 people) and books names like Ellen Allien and Apollonia; its Night & Day parties run from Friday night into Saturday afternoon.

The Chocolate Factory, at 70 Scott Ave, is a three-floor industrial space with a Void sound system that hosts house, techno and dubstep events on select dates. Closer to the river, Superior Ingredients (74 Wythe Ave, in the building that was Output) runs techno, house and trance in its dark main room. Pacha New York, on Stewart Ave, books the big international house and techno names.

What is a techno club?

A techno club is built around one kind of electronic music: repetitive, mostly instrumental and played by DJs for hours. The room tends to be dark, the sound system is the main investment, and there is little or no VIP. In New York, that usually also means long nights and house rules about phones.

House rules

No-phone policies are the norm in this scene. BASEMENT bans phones, photos and video, and has banned smart glasses; Refuge and Nowadays keep phones off the floor; Signal puts a sticker on your camera. Dress is relaxed: come in something you can dance in for hours.
